Innovate while maintaining tradition in forces: Rajnath Singh – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Striking a balance between tradition and innovation is crucial in the armed forces, Union defence minister Rajnath Singh said here Sunday.
“In the armed forces, tradition is very important as it is time-tested, but that should not be only thing followed. Today’s officers should bring in innovation in thinking as well,” Singh said while addressing a combined graduation parade (CGP) at the Air Force Academy in Telangana’s Dundigal.
If only tradition were followed, one would be like a dead lake.”We need to be like a flowing river. For that, we will have to bring in innovation along with tradition. Keep flying and touch greater heights, but maintain your connection with the ground,” the minister said.
Singh, who was reviewing the parade, pointed out how ideals are fading over time in various fields, including in the armed forces, and urged graduating officers not to lose idealism and their openness towards new ideas and innovative thinking, under any circumstance. “I request you to never let go of your idealism,” he said.
As many as 213 flight cadets of the flying and ground duty branches, including 25 women officers of the Indian Air Force (IAF) were commissioned at the parade. Eight officers from the Indian Navy, nine from the Indian Coast Guard, and two training officers from Vietnam were also awarded ‘Wings’ following the completion of their flying training.
