Under eye bags: Home Remedies To Get Rid Of It

Under-eye bags or puffiness or swelling under the eyes, can be caused by a variety of circumstances, including insufficient sleep, fluid retention, allergies, ageing, and hereditary factors. While total is not possible, the following home methods may help minimise the look of under-eye bags:

Cold Compress

Apply a cold compress to the under-eye area. The cold helps constrict blood vessels and reduce swelling. You can use a cold spoon, a chilled cucumber slice, or a clean cloth soaked in cold water.

Tea Bags

Place cooled tea bags (green or chamomile tea is often recommended) over your closed eyes. The tannins in tea have anti-inflammatory properties that may help reduce puffiness.

Cucumber Slices

Cucumber slices have a cooling effect and may help reduce swelling. Place fresh cucumber slices on your closed eyes for about 10-15 minutes.

Potato Slices

Raw potato slices contain enzymes and starch that may help reduce under-eye bags. Place thin slices of raw potato on your eyes and leave them for 15-20 minutes.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Apply a small amount of pure aloe vera gel to the under-eye area and gently massage. Leave it on for about 15 minutes before rinsing.

Elevate Your Head While Sleeping

Use an extra pillow to elevate your head while sleeping. This may help prevent fluid from accumulating under your eyes, reducing morning puffiness.

Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Dehydration can contribute to under-eye bags, so ensuring you are well-hydrated may help alleviate puffiness.

Limit Salt Intake

Excessive salt intake can lead to water retention and contribute to under-eye bags. Limit your sodium intake by avoiding highly processed foods and adding less salt to your meals.

Get Adequate Sleep

Lack of sleep can contribute to under-eye bags. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to promote overall well-being and reduce puffiness.

Use Sunscreen

Protect your skin from sun damage by using sunscreen. Sun exposure can accelerate the breakdown of collagen, contributing to under-eye bags and wrinkles.\

Over-the-Counter Creams

Some over-the-counter creams or serums may contain ingredients like caffeine, retinol, or hyaluronic acid that can temporarily reduce the appearance of under-eye bags. Look for products specifically formulated for the under-eye area.

Regular Allergy Management

If allergies contribute to your under-eye bags, manage them effectively. Avoid allergens, and consider consulting with an allergist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
